World Taekwondo Culture Festival 2001 had the closing ceremony in Chungju Indoor Gymnasium on July 5 and wrapped up the 5 days' programs.
It was the 4th event this year, and 2013 people came from total 63 countries, bigger number of participants and countries than ever; this festival has indeed grown big. But from a qualitative point of view, this year's has not improved very much in comparison with last year's.
Operation was not smooth as usual, and competitors had no waiting room so that they had to wait for hours for their names to be called. Worse, the electric score board for one of the three mats kept breaking down, so the game had to be stopped in the middle.
The problem continued to the last moment. Before the total rewarding ceremony, Spanish Head Coach Kim Young Ki, who was informed that Spain took the 4th place in Male Senior Class, objected, saying "The record is wrong, We've won 2 golds, 1 silver and several bronzes, and how we are only 4th? Check that out."
Upon this, Chung Cheong College checked the result hurriedly, and then corrected Spanish Male Senior's final place from 4th to 2nd.
However, the rewarding ceremony had already ended. Chung Cheong College said, "We've calculated the total number of medals by hand, so we've made this mistake."
Besides, all along the days when this festival was going on, there were few citizens but competitors and staff to watch the games, so the problem remained unresolved that they failed to attract ordinary people to participate in the festival. What was worse, one Chinese player and 42 of Pakistani players had disappeared, which taught that they should watch foreign players carefully.
World Taekwondo Culture Festival Director Oh, Noh Gyun said, "We'll correct the wrong and make up for the weak points that this year's festival has found, in order to make the next festival a better one."
Chungju Indoor Gymnasium, where the games were going out, had a good air-conditioning(cooling) system, and competitors were able to play in a better environment than before. Further, the Organizing Committee ended all games exactly as they had planned, which showed that they learned some know-how about operating games.
Volunteers played a significant role for this festival. Some 350 of the volunteers did a great job in game-guide, interpretation, dinning, broadcasting, Koryo Finger Acupuncture, and almost all parts, and their devoted activities gave a strong impression to foreign competitors from all around the world
In addition, there were held a variety of sub events such as Kosung Okwangdae Nori(mask dancing), Jindo Buk Chum(drum dancing), and Taekwondo photo exhibition, which became a common ground that world Taekwondo people got along with each other and had fun.
